About Me: From Being Called Fatso to Enjoying a Healthy Lifestyle
A healthy lifestyle brings balance which is necessary for a good life. My name is Margarita and I am the person behind Be Aware Choose Practice (BeACP).
I share findings and ideas on how to live a healthier, joyful, and more holistic life. A pendulum is a tool I use to help me achieve that.
Where are you from?
I was born and lived until the age of 19 in the country boasting the smoothest coffee, the tallest palms, the leading source of emeralds, the third-highest capital city in the world.
I have lived most of my life in the country boasting the largest office building, the tallest known living tree, the longest cave systems, and the most generous people in the world.
Who am I?
My life has been one of intense transformation. A pivotal age was when I was 19-years-old. I embarked on my first solo journey and came to the USA. That was something unheard of in my Latin culture at that time.
I follow Self-Realization Fellowship’s teachings shared by Paramahansa Yogananda. He is the author of Autobiography of a Yogi.
I enjoy learning about Edgar Cayce’s and similar spiritual-scientific teachings as well as energy healing.
What ideology shapes your life?
My belief is that I am Spirit, a soul. My thoughts and emotions make up my mind. And my body is the temple where the spirit and the mind unfold.
I realized that what I feed my mind is just as important or more as what I feed my body. That’s why a healthy lifestyle is a balance of body-mind-soul and emotions.
Any experiences shaped you to have a healthy lifestyle?
I grew up being called fatso & a target of jokes. I was bullied because of my weight and was painfully shy through my teens.
In my twenties, I followed a diet for a full year while continuing to exercise. The weight came off and I swore not to let myself gain more than 5 lbs ever again. I have maintained that weight for over 25 years and it is seriously liberating!
What are your credentials?
My heart has always been in the science of the spirit and the mind. I have practiced Reiki for many years and hold certificates in Environmental Medicine and Health and Wellness Coaching. I also have a BSBA and worked in enterprise software sales for years.
God is the Love that upholds all creation and each of us is made in his image. Self Realization Fellowship teaches us that by finding God within we can find him without in all people and all situations.
Devotional prayer, meditation, and intention are keys to growing spiritually. It is all about personal continuous learning, practicing, and changing.
What’s your favorite quote?
I have lived through positive affirmations and quotes since I was a teenager. Mother Teresa once said: “Spread love everywhere you go.”
“Cling to What is Good” is another favorite I use often in rock painting.
